‘Catching Fire’: Why Garrett Hedlund Passed On Finnick

It was widely rumored that Tony Shalhoub would be playing Beetee but nope! 

Meet Jeffrey Wright!

He’s widely regarded as a very talented, though underrated, actor. He has won a Tony, Golden Globe, & an AFI award. His resume is quite impressive including Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close, The Ides of March, Source Code, Quantum of Solace, etc. 

I love Tony Shalhoub, but I’m really excited about this casting. Beetee is such an important character in Catching Fire, I can’t wait to see how Jeffrey does!

I’m so excited it’s finally official! I love Sam Claflin playing Finnick Odair. You can read more about that up at the “Okay, so here’s the thing” link because my first impression of him after seeing a pic was honestly not stellar but I trust their casting choices & I saw pretty quickly why he’ll make a great Finnick.

p.s- can we not all go crazy & be hateful? At least not on my tumblr posts, please. If you love the books & the movie[s] maybe just cool it with any Sam Claflin hate you may have just because your favorite didn’t get cast (especially if they never even auditioned in the first place). It’s not doing anyone any good & I think it cheapens the very heart of why these books & movies are so special & important to all of us. I know I run a tumblr that makes jokes but I’m 100% dead serious when it comes to the books otherwise. ~ Le stepping off soap box now.~

Meet the lovely Stephanie Leigh Schlund!

Stephanie will be playing the female District 1 tribute & sibling of Gloss. 

Fun fact: She played Liam’s sister in The Last Song.

Thoughts?

Glimmer & Cashmere are exactly as I pictured them. I’ve never seen either act but I don’t know that we’ll see too much of them in the movie anyway. 

Maria Howell will be playing the female District 11 Quarter Quell tribute in Catching Fire!

If you don’t recall from the book, Seeder is presumed to be around sixty-years-old. After the tribute parade she embraces Katniss & assures her that Rue & Thresh’ families are okay after an uprising during their visit earlier on during the tribute tour. She’s also in on the alliance & is there to protect Katniss. 

We’ve got our male District 11 Quarter Quell tribute, E. Roger Mitchell!

If you don’t recall from the book- Chaff won the 45th Hunger Games & is a friend of Haymitch (who won the 50th) & they’ve both turned to drinking since then. He’s also one of the few in on the big plan during the Quarter Quell. 

Thoughts?

I really like this casting. Chaff is someone who they say could never resist a fight but he’s also got a softer side to him & E Roger Mitchell is exactly what I pictured. Chaff is also missing a hand but I wonder if that’ll be addressed in the movie since Peeta got to keep his leg & all :) 

Meet Alan Ritchson!

He’ll be playing the “classically beautiful” District 1 tribute in Catching Fire. Alan is a former Abercrombie & Fitch model & (awww yeaahhhh…..) underwear model!: 

(seriously, this dude’s culo is everywhere & I am not complaining.)

He’s exactly what I pictured. Doesn’t he look like an older Hunter Parish?

At this pace it looks like (fingers crossed!) we’ll soon be seeing who is cast as Cashmere, his sister & fellow classically beautiful District 1 Quarter Quell tribute! 

Meet Bruno Gunn! 

He has a ton of credits playing officers, detectives, guards, agents, etc. which seems perfect as he’ll be playing a very brutal character who’s eager to get back into the games. 

Thoughts? 

Meta Golding will be playing Enobaria of District 2!

She has a ton of credits in TV shows & movies (CSI, NCIS, Body of Proof, Burn Notice, etc.) but I thought her bio was pretty neat:

She’s of Haitian decent, raised in the US, India, France, & Italy & competed as an Italian national figure skater. Meta attended Cornell University & earned her degrees in Theatre Arts & International Relations & is fluent in English, French, & Italian. 

I’m really looking forward to seeing her as Enobaria.

Okay so Josh Hutcherson said on the 3rd that he is heading to Atlanta in two weeks to start shooting Catching Fire. Super grool, right?

& Sam Claflin is very likely our Finnick (& I love him!). But then I see this today:
